I was so excited to come across this excellent video on how to weave in ends. You may know Roxanne Richardson as Ask Rox on Ravelry and a frequent contributor at The Knitting Guild Assocaition. Actual intructions on how to weave in the ends have been woefully lacking in both patterns and books. Of course if your knitted fabric will be seamed, bury the ends there. However, if you need a secure and subtle method to hide those ends, reverse duplicate stitch (darning stitch) it the go to method.
